• The theatre area at Bayers Lake has had many car thefts in the past year. Never leave packages visible in your vehicle, and always leave it locked.
• Lock all doors: cars, homes, sheds, etc. Doors left unlocked have facilitated some recent thefts in the Prospect Bay area. Always secure your personal and property belongings in such a way that no crime of opportunity is possible.
• Scams: Never pay money for "winning" a prize,  contest, or "free" trip. Never pass along any personal information in such a case. Call the local police service to check out any offer that sounds too good.
• Never give any information to any unknown caller, no matter who they say they are. You do not have to answer their questions. Call your police service if you get suspicious calls.
• Never open your door to strangers, even if they say they are contractors and have noticed a "problem". Call your police service if you  are approached in this way.
  
• Be alert to your personal circumstances at all times. Take nothing for granted.
  
• Remember to cover the keypad when using any banking machine. Look for any changes in the appearance of the machine, or procedures. Ask for official assistance if you have any suspicions about the machine or its operation.
  
• In a special notebook, make a written note about any person, vehicle, or situation which seems out of the normal. If you have a camera handy a picture, or video can be very helpful to investigators.
  
• The Tuesday, or Wednesday edition of the Halifax Herald publishes weekly crime statistics. Keep up-to-date on what is happening in your area.
